नेपालका ६८ बर्षे बिद्यार्थी:
नेपाली हजुरबुवा,दुर्गा कामी, आफ्नो झुसे दाह्री ब्रसले कोर्छन्, स्कूलको युनिफर्म लगाउँछन र लठ्ठीको सहायताले एक घण्टा भन्दा लामो यात्रा गरेर पढ्नको लागि कक्षामा पुग्छन् । उनले गरिबीका कारण आफ्नो विद्यालय शिक्षा पुरा गरेर एउटा शिक्षक बन्ने सपना पुरा गर्न सकेनन् । ६ जनाका पिता तथा ८ जनाका हजुरबुवा ६८ बर्षका उनी अहिले श्रीमतीको देहान्त पछि एक्लोपनबाट टाढा हुन र आफ्नो पढाई पुरा गर्न हरेक हप्ताको ६ दिन सम्म विद्यालय धाउँछन् । देशको राजधानी काठमाण्डौ देखि झण्डै २५० किलोमिटर (१५५ माईल) पर स्याङ्जा जिल्लाको बारम्बार बत्ती गईरहने र छत चुहीरहने एकान्तको एक कोठे घर भन्दा श्री काल भैरव उच्च मा.वि.को २०० जना विद्यार्थीको जमातले उनलाई फरक ढंगले स्वागत गरेको छ । १४–१५ बर्षका बालबालिकाहरु संगसंगै पढ्दै गरेका नेपालकै थोरै मात्र बृद्ध विद्यार्थीमा पर्ने कामी भन्छन्, “आफ्ना दुःखहरु विर्सन म विद्यालय आउँछु” । श्री काल भैरव उच्च माविका शिक्षक डि आर कोईरालाले कामीलाई विद्यालयमा निमन्त्रणा गरी आवश्यक मसलन्द, विद्यालयको पोशाक सहित खैरो ट्राउजर र निलो धर्काभएको टाई र सेतो सर्ट दिएको हो । कोईराला भन्छन्, मेरा पिता समान उमेरका मानिसलाई पहिलो पटक पढाउँदा म खुसी र उत्साहित भएको छु । विद्यालयको छात्रबृत्तीले खाना नदिने हुनाले विहान खाएको गुन्दु्रक र भातले उनलाई बेलुकी सम्म टिकाउनु पर्ने हुन्छ । १० कक्षाका २० जना विद्यार्थीहरुले उनलाई कामी बा भनेर बोलाउँछन् । आफ्नो पाको उमेरका बापजुद उनी कक्षाका साथिहरुसंग विद्यालय प्राङ्गणमा भलिबल खेल्ने लगायत सबै क्रियाकलापमा सहभागी हुन्छन् । उनका कक्षाका १४ बर्षीय साथी सागर थापा सुरुसुरुमा सोच्ने गर्थे रे, “किन यी कामी बा हामी संग पढ्न विद्यालय आउने गर्छन्,” तर आजकल उनलाई उनको संगत रमाईलो लाग्छ । सागर भन्छन्, “उनी पढाईमा अरु भन्दा अली कमजोर छन् तर यसमा हामी उनलाई सहयोग गछौं”। कामीले आफू मृत्यु पर्यन्त पढीरहने र आफू जस्तो सेतै दाह्री भएको मान्छेलाई विद्यालय जाँदै गरेको देख्दा अरुलाई समेत उमेरलाई तगारो नबनाई पढ्नको लागि उत्प्रेरणा मिल्ने आशा व्यक्त गर्नुभयो ।

ग्रहण
'नेपाल दुइ ढुंगाबिचको तरुल हो' भन्ने भनाइ सुन्दै हुर्किएँ म | तर मैले कहिले पनि बुझिन कि विश्वका दुइ तिब्र आर्थिक वृद्धिदर भएका देशका बिचको भूपरिबेष्ठित मुलुकमा बस्नु किन गलत छ | भारतसंग जोडिएको झापाको एक गाउँमा जन्मि हुर्किएको हुँदा मलाई सीमापारको भारतीय शहरमा मेला भर्न तथा यहाँ नपाइने सामान किनमेल गर्न गएको मिठा अनुभवहरु छन् |
मेरो जन्मदिन भन्दा एक दिन अघि मंसिरको एक चिसो रात मा बिरगंज उत्रिएँ | जिन्दगिमै पहिलो टाँगा यात्रामा मंसिरको ठिहीमा काम्दै माइक्रोफोन लिएर घोडाको टुकटुक रेकर्ड गर्नुको अनुभव अविस्मरणीय थियो | लाग्यो पुरा ब्रम्हाण्डमा यहि एउटा मात्रै आबाज छ | मेरो कयामारा बिरगंजको मेरो पहिलो अनुभब कैद गर्न तयार थियो | तर यो आनन्द धेरैबेर टिकेन |
केहि मधेशी आन्दोलनकारीले हाम्रो बाटो छेके र टाँगा तोडफोड गर्ने भन्दै हामीलाई फर्कन धम्कि दिए | बिहानको ४ बजेको थियो | छेउमै रहेको एक युवाले मलाइ जिस्काउँदै भन्यो – स्वागत छ |
बिरगंज देशको एक ठुलो शहर मात्रै हैन नेपाल र भारत बिचको एक महत्वपुर्ण ब्यापारिक बिन्दु हो | यो भन्सार नाकाबाट देशको बिभिन्न भागमा अत्यावश्यक सामान जस्तै पेट्रोल नेपाल छिर्छ | तर म बिरगंजको एकदमै नौलो माहोलको साक्षी भएँ | सिमान्तकृत मधेशी समुदायको एक ठुलो हिस्सा संबिधानमा आफ्नो हक अधिकार सुनिस्चित गर्न र प्रदेशको सिमानामा बिरोध जनाउंदै आन्दोलनमा होमिएको थियो | उनीहरुको आन्दोलनले प्रहरीसंग भिडन्तको अबस्था सृजना भएपछी उनीहरुले नेपाल-भारत सिमानाको दशकजा केन्द्रित आन्दोलन शुरु गरे | यसले नेपाल-भारतबिचको महत्वपूर्ण ब्यापारिक नाका ठप्प पारिदियो | नेपाल र भारतको १७०० किलोमिटर भन्दा बढी खुल्ला सिमा भएको हुँदा यो आन्दोलन देशको सीमामा मात्रै सिमित भएन | बिरगंज नाका ठप्प हुँदा मुलूकमा अत्याबश्यक सामग्रीको अभाव चुलियो | मेरो यो प्रस्तुति मधेश आन्दोलनको केन्द्र रहेको बिरगंजको एक दृश्यात्मक प्रस्तुति हो | मधेश ठान्दछ कि नयाँ संबिधान उसको भावना बिपरित छ र यसमा अल्पसंख्यक समुदायको हक अधिकार सुनिस्चित गर्न पर्याप्त ब्यबस्था छैन | राज्य र कानुनबीच कतै एक समुदाय समतामुलक समाजको आशा लिएर बाँची रहेको छ |

नेपालका धेरै जसो मानिस रुढीबादी र अन्धबिश्वस्सी छन् र दैबी शक्तिमा बिश्वास राक्छन् | सदियौंदेखि पुरातनबादी सोच हाम्रो सामाजिक र संस्कृतिक संरचनाहरुमा जरो गाडेर बसेको छ | यस्ता सोच र मान्यताहरु हाम्रो संस्कृतिक गतिबिधीहरुसंग सम्बन्धित छन् | यसले हाम्रो समाजमा बेला-बेलामा भौतिक वा सामाजिक द्वन्द सृजना गरिराखेको हुन्छ | यस्तो कुरीतिको निशानामा धेरै जस्तो महिला नै पर्छन् – धेरै जसो गरिब, निरिह अनि एकल महिला | कमला नदि किनारमा हरेक कार्तिक पुर्णिमामा मनाइने 'भुत महोत्सब' हाम्रो संस्कृतिसंग जोडिएको रुढी र अन्धविश्वासको एक उदाहरण हो | धामीहरुले कुल देवताले वा अन्य खराब मानिसले लागैदेको रोग ब्याध हरु निको पार्दिन्छन् भन्ने बिश्वासमा हजारौं तिर्थयात्रीहरु कार्तिक पुर्णिमाको रात कमला किनारमा पुग्छन् | यस्ता पर्बहरुले मानिसहरुमा रहेको रुढी र अन्धबिश्वासलाइ थप बलियो बनाइरहेकोहुन्छ | धामीहरुले सदियौंदेखि समाजमा ब्याप्त रुढी र अन्धबिश्वासलाइ आफु अनुकुल प्रयोग गरेर समाजमा आफ्नो उपस्थिति थप मजबुत बनाईरहेकाछन् | कान्ति यादब यस्तै हिंसाबाट प्रताडित हजारौं महिला मध्ये एक हुन् |
